High Performance Headers
Improve Your Car's Exhaust
Adding high performance headers to a vehicle's exhaust system can make a substantial difference in the overall performance of the engine. By lengthening the exhaust collection tubes, headers allow the engine to expel exhaust gases more efficiently, and therefore increase efficiency and power. Headers work on the same overall principle as a standard exhaust manifold; however, they have longer collection tubes. Because of this, they provide many performance advantages over a standard manifold. Headers can provide increases in both torque and horsepower. These increases are generally modest, yet still noticeable. A side benefit from the performance standpoint is that they also allow the engine to reach higher RPMs more quickly, thus increasing the responsiveness of the throttle.
Need Another Reason for a New Header?
From the practical side of the matter, headers are also useful in increasing engine efficiency. Because they allow the engine to vent exhaust gases more efficiently, they do provide a slight but worthwhile increase in overall fuel economy. While this is rarely among the reasons that performance enthusiasts opt for headers, it can be a convenient benefit to having them installed on a vehicle.
